TODAY & TOMORROW, HINDSIGHT AND FORESIGHT, GRIEF AND HOPE

Below I am taking you back to the first post that I wrote about Ayn and her dad Derek, dated June 25, 2011. Imagine. June 16th is when their world came crashing in. Here we are today on the eve of another Court Hearing, tomorrow April 1st.
Many scores of posts later, we are nearing three years that Ayn has been away from her family home.

June 30, 2011 CHILD WELFARE IN CANADA, IN ABBOTSFORD & THE CURRENT AYN VAN DYK CASE / 558

To that June 30th entry there were 27 comments from readers as the wave of support began to build. Friends had generated this Facebook page and subscribers grew into the thousands. Many people thought that this case would be resolved sensibly and short order. Others with experience with MCFD knew that these cases can drag on interminably and in a case such as this, it is not “in the best interest of the child,” regardless of how MCFD tries to justify it.

APRIL FOOL'S DAY will tell us a great deal about MCFD, The Ministry of Children and Family Development.

AN APRIL FOOL'S DAY ENGAGEMENT - NEXT COURT DATE FOR AYN VAN DYK CASE

APRIL 1st, Can you imagine that? That's the date for the next court date when something further will either be decided or delayed or postponed with regard to the return of Ayn Van Dyk after almost three years of being withheld from either of her parents, Amie or Derek. Nothing has been going on for months.

You do recall I hope that it was in June 2011 that she was taken surreptitiously while she was at school.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE AUTISTIC

Hi Friends, Carly Fleishman has nonverbal autism but she has told her story in a book entitled 'Breaking Through Autism' and here is a video clip illustration of her experience, one brief moment in an average day. Clearly, there are countless degrees within the autism spectrum but this teaches us about some of the feelings a person may have. Does it ring true do you think, those of you with a child with autism? YouTube has other clips bearing her name

THE MANDATE & SCOPE OF THE REPRESENTATIVE OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Children deserve to be protected and safe. That’s what the Legislature agreed when it mandated the Representative to employ three principle instruments to improve services as well as outcomes for children in B.C. The instruments are advocacy, accountability and review.

The Representative is charged to advocate on behalf of children and youth to ensure services that meet their needs.

PURPOSE OF THE REPRESENTATIVE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH

I said earlier that the representative is not a government employee. Rather, the Representative is an independent Officer of the Legislature of B.C. The Representative does not report through the MCFD or another Ministry but rather impartially to the Legislature.

WHEN A NEED FOR A WATCHDOG BECAME OBVIOUS

WHEN A NEED FOR A WATCHDOG BECAME MORE THAN OBVIOUS

We have in British Columbia a position called ‘The Representative for Children and Youth’ that is presently held by Mary-Ellen Turpel Lafond. This post is not about her but about the position. Government acknowledged in 2005-2006 that it was a necessary position. Why?
